Shannan Herbert is the Executive Vice President of Inclusive Credit for Stratyfy, a woman-led mission focused fintech company that works to accelerate financial inclusion by eliminating bias in critical financial decisions. She leads strategy and product creation for Community Development Financial Institutions and large to mid-size community banks. Before joining Stratyfy, she served as Executive Vice President and Chief Credit Officer for City First Bank, one of the largest Black led Community Development Financial Institutions and Minority Depository Institutions in the country. With more than 20+ years of experience, she has served in key leadership roles for most of her career, leveraging her expertise to direct enterprises in the strategic development and delivery of value-driven, user-friendly solutions in the commercial credit and financial services arena. Her work has focused on providing capital to under-resourced groups that have historically been denied access to funding. Her commitment to community development and small business lending has helped hundreds of minority-owned companies thrive. Prior to joining City First, Shannan was the Senior Vice President and Director of Loan Review for United Bank, where she was responsible for the oversight of a $13B loan portfolio. In a previous role with United Bank, she served as Vice President and Credit Officer, where she improved the quality of underwriting and was responsible for reviewing and analyzing transactions ranging from $2M to $50M.
In the years before she joined United Bank, Shannan was Assistant Vice President and Team Leader for the commercial credit department of National Cooperative Bank, a federally insured chartered thrift with more than $3B in assets, that focused on cooperative and New Market Tax Credit lending. She also spent time as a risk analyst with Atradius, an international credit insurance company, in a role that required her to prepare risk analysis for corporations located in Mexico, Central America, Latin America, South America, and the Caribbean.
Shannan was born and raised in the Washington Metropolitan area and is an active member of her community, having partnered with various non-profits and other organizations to facilitate personal finance seminars for children and adults. She is passionate about communicating the importance of credit and financial literacy to the next generation of leaders and has volunteered her time with a local high school to mentor and provide career guidance. Shannan serves as Chair of the board of Beacon House, a nonprofit organization that offers one-on-one mentoring, educational support, and sports programs for children in the Edgewood affordable housing community of Washington DC. She also serves as Vice Chair of Rochdale Capital, an emerging CDFI providing capital to Black and Brown led cooperatives, and as a Board Member for Women In Consulting and the Arc of Prince Georges County. Additionally, Shannan is an Advisory Council Member for The Women in Leadership at Florida International University School of Business and a member of the Risk Management Association Community Bank Council.
Shannan is a proud graduate of Howard University and holds an MBA from Loyola University Maryland.
